Important Legislation to Help with Tuition:
Governor Cuomo and lawmakers are very close to approving legislation that would generate an additional $150 million in scholarships to help families pay tuition. Unfortunately, lobbyists from the public schools teachers’ unions are vigorously opposing the legislation and are urging lawmakers to fund only public schools. Tuition-paying families need and deserve their fair share.
Without your help, this legislation may not be enacted!
Please take a moment to go to the NYS Catholic Conference website to easily and quickly send a message to the Governor and your elected legislators urging them to enact the Education Investment Tax Credit proposal. Although the message is pre-written, feel free to edit it to reflect your particular needs and concerns. By sending the message, you will also be given the opportunity to stay informed on this and other important efforts to help Catholic schools.

Grant Opportunity for Parents
The Dorothy Vaill Memorial Fund supports learning opportunities for children and women who value education but do not have needed resources that can assist them in their academic pursuits. It is open to children whose families need assistance in obtaining a quality well-rounded education. Children must be currently enrolled at a Catholic elementary or secondary school. Applicants must be residents of states in which the Holy Union Sisters are currently serving in ministry: Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia.
Grants are awarded for one year and will generally be between $1,000 and $4,000 dependent upon financial need. Grants may be renewable contingent upon ongoing financial need and successful academic performance, but for not more than three additional years. Grants will be paid directly to the school for tuition only. Application must be postmarked no later than February 10, 2014; awarded are announced mid-April. Checks in the amount awarded will be sent to each recipient’s school on July 1, to be credited to the student’s account. To apply: click and download

The Mother-Son Event will be held on March 28, 2014 from 6-8pm in the school auditorium. We have a game trailer coming where mom can learn all the newest video secrets from her son(s). Enjoy scooter racing, basketball and “Minute to Win It” games. Dinner will be catered by Mamma’s Restaurant (salad, pasta, eggplant rollatini (menu change to observe Lent) with garlic knots for the moms & chicken fingers & french fries for the boys) followed by an ice cream dessert bar and cupcakes. Remember the night with a special photo (frame included) for $5. Tickets are $25 for a mom and son. Each additional son in $10. Please find the flyer attached. *Save the Date* The Fishing Trip will be held on May 31, 2014 from 3:30-7:30pm, Rain or Shine, Enjoy a fun day with St. Mary School friends and family aboard the Captree Star 3 for a fishing trip on the calm, sheltered waters of the Great South Bay. The 4-hour trip includes use of rod, reel, bait and tackle and we will be targeting Fluke. The family friendly crew will give fishing lessons, assist you with baiting your hook and removing your catch from the rod as well as filleting your fish at the end of the trip. We will be selling refreshments and snacks on board but please feel free to bring your own picnic. There will be raffles, a 50/50 and interactive sea life experience for the kids. 100th Anniversary - St. Mary's for Life
"Little Bit of Luck " Raffle
Our School Family "Little Bit of Luck" Raffle will be conducted at our Musical Extravaganza on March 14th 2014. The prizes will be $5,000 (1st prize), $3,000 (2nd prize), and $2,000 (3rd prize). Each school family is responsible to sell one ticket. The ticket is $100, and may be purchased by as many people as you wish. Please make sure the "Little Bit of Luck" raffle form and money is returned to school by February 5, 2014. If you choose not to purchase the $100 raffle ticket, an additional $100 will be added to your tuition. Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation in this matter.
